We like books.
Trading Pages is a book club. But not the kind of book club where we all drop a lot of cash on a bestseller & forget to read it & go to the meeting & discuss the title for five minutes before busting out the wine.
We like to save money.
But we also like to have an endless selection of new books to try. Here's how we do it. Once a month, each member receives an email directing her to the password-protected Members Area of the web site.
There she can access her assignment for the month: another member to whom she'll send a book. She can also get the name and address of the person she'll be sending a book to, along with a profile telling a little about the other member's literary likes and dislikes. She chooses a book, from her own collection (or a cheap one from a used book store), and mails it to the other member. In return, she receives a book in the mail from a third member. Every month, she sends to and receives from a different member.
We like to have options.
She can read the book she receives if she wants to. She can try reading it, get 20 pages into it and decide she hates it, and let it sit under the bed collecting dust until she moves. She can keep it and cherish it forever, or send it to another member the next month, or sell it at a used book store, or give it to her Mom for Christmas.
We like to discuss books.
Since we're spread out around the country, we don't have meetings to discuss the books. That's where the Trading Pages Message Board comes in. There's a pretty good chance that all our members will like at least some of the books they receive, and they'll want to talk about them. Check out our book discussions or start one of your own.
